Because both the informal Rule of Thumb and the formal F-test support the conclusion of equal variance, the analyst should confidently select the more powerful Student’s t-test for comparing the group means. Had the p-value been below 0.05, we would have been forced to reject the assumption of equality and proceed with the robust Welch’s t-test, which is specifically designed to handle variance heterogeneity.
